ROWLETT AND FATE LINK CERT PROGRAMS ROWLETT, TX – Two local organizations recently joined hands to strengthen community volunteer response and support during disasters and other local emergencies. The Fate Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), sponsored by the City of Fate Volunteer Fire Department agreed to become a formal affiliated program of the Rowlett Citizen Corps Council (RCCC). The agreement allows Fate to take advantage of resources, leadership and other material support provided by Rowlett’s award winning programs in a mentoring type relationship. Fate Fire Chief Sean Fay said, “I am excited to see the Fate CERT program plugging into what’s going on in the RCCC. The depth of experience and leadership within the RCCC is exactly what the Fate program needs to draw from in order to establish its own solid foundation. I am looking forward to working closely with this growing organization.” The RCCC is a respected leader, mentor and model program, and is frequently sought out by local programs for advice and guidance. The RCCC sponsors the Rowlett CERT, Fire Corps, and Volunteers in Police Services (VIPS) programs along with an Emergency Management Explorer Post. They also have a mentoring relationship with the Sachse CERT program. “We’re thrilled to partner with Fate and help build their growing CERT program.” said Whitney Laning, RCCC president. “The agreement presents opportunities for both organizations to stand out and build stronger community bonds. It’s genuinely exciting.” CERT programs teach citizens how to be self-reliant and help their neighbors immediately following a major disaster, emergency or crisis. CERT is an integral part of emergency management plans, and is becoming more common place in communities across the country. The program may also activate for everyday emergencies like searching for a missing person, assessing a neighborhood for damage after a severe storm, or assisting with an evacuation. Rowlett offers CERT classes twice a year free of charge to Rowlett, Fate and Sachse residents. There is a small charge for others who attend the class. The next class is scheduled for October 3rd and 10th, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day. For more information or to register for the October class, see our website at www.rowlettcitizencorps.org.
